IOM-UK Manx Utilities Cable Survey



Please be advised that A-2-Sea Solutions will be carrying out marine survey operations along the IOM-UK Submarine Electrical Interconnector cable. The marine survey will extend from Blackpool, UK along the length of the cable route to Douglas, IOM.


Survey operations are expected to commence from the end of October into mid-November for approximately 1-2 weeks depending on weather conditions. Survey work will be undertaken onboard the survey vessel ‘Manor Brunel’. The ‘Manor Brunel’ (19.6m LOA) will be underway throughout operations sailing survey lines at 4-8 knots. ‘Manor Brunel’ will exhibit the lights and shapes prescribed by the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea and will maintain a listening watch on VHF Channel 16.

The survey area constitutes a 50m corridor centred on the cable. Survey operations will involve the use of hull mounted equipment and towed equipment below the water surface, up to 100m behind the vessel. A wide berth is requested at all times as the vessel will be restricted in her ability to manoeuvre.

Survey - Proposed Scotland - N.Ireland 3



Global Marine is preparing to undertake a visual and sonar pre-installation survey along the proposed Scot NI 3 fibre optic telecommunications routes situated within Scottish and Northern Irish waters. The Normand Clipper is scheduled to arrive on site at the proposed Portpatrick landing point on the 1st November and will survey the proposed Scot NI 3 route westwards toward the landing point in Donaghadee.


Nearshore/beach works

 

The vessel that will be supporting & conducting intertidal and nearshore cable installation & trenching works is TBC. These works will be conducted along with some supporting shallow draft vessels (RIBS).

The CS Sovereign vessel will be conducting PLIB activity along the Scot-NI 3 route between 16th and 26th November 2021, starting at Portpatrick and moving towards Donaghadee.

 

The vessels will be limited in manoeuvrability therefore, vessels working in the area should maintain a distance of at least 1NM from the cable ship during operations.

Inch Cape Offshore Wind Farm - Development Area Site Investigations



Site investigation in the Development Area for the consented Inch Cape Offshore Wind Farm located within the Outer Firth of Tay.


Please be advised that Fugro will be performing site investigation works on behalf of Inch Cape Offshore Limited. The works are to be carried out within the Development Area (see Figure 1 below) for the consented Inch Cape Offshore Wind Farm located within the Outer Firth of Tay

 

The first phase of the site investigation works are now complete. The second phase of the site investigation works will commence on or after the 1st of November 2021, weather permitting and take up to 25 days to complete. The works will be undertaken using the vessel Fugro Scout.

 

During the survey the vessel will be displaying the relevant RAM lights and displays during periods of restricted manoeuvrability. Whilst not recommended, vessels entering the survey area are requested to maintain a 500m safety zone.

Seabed instrumentation frame deployments - South Stack Irish Sea



Two seabed instrumentation frames with associated ground lines and clump weights will be temporarily deployed for a period of approximately 5-6 weeks, assuming suitable weather conditions for recovery operations.


Each ballasted frame weighs around 370kg, measures approximately 1.5m x 1.5m x 1.5m and is connected to a 100kg clump weight and remotely actuated pop-up buoy via a 100m wire ground line.

 

Once installed in the Morlais demonstration zone the frames will sit on the seabed at depths of at least 30m, with no surface infrastructure such as buoys or markers. Vessels will be able to pass safely through the area and above the frames. Use of static or mobile benthic fishing gear in the immediate area should be avoided to avoid the risk of snagging.

 

Three possible deployment locations are listed for the two seabed frames: a final pre-installation survey by subsea video camera will be completed at these locations before the equipment is deployed on the two most appropriate locations. This notice will be updated with the as-deployed locations.

Dropped - Ormonde Offshore Wind Farm



MPI Adventure jacked up along-side Ormonde B01. 3 x 61m turbine blades weighing 126 tonnes & Blade clamping tool 3000-3100kg. The items are in the water adjacent to vessel in proimity to WTG B01. Debris has fractured off from one blade and potential to reach shore. Glass fibre fragments and part of blade. MPI Adventure is still on site, objects in close proximity to WTG B01 therefore unlikely that other vessels will stray into area. Arrangements for deployment of marker buoys are ongoing.


Turbine parts and tool fell into water during a major component exchange at turbine B01:

  • 3 x 61m blades:
    • Mainly Fibreglass and Wood with bearings and pitch gear rings.
  • Hub, containing:
    • 3 x Pitch Motors (22 litres of Mobil SHC Gear 150 in each)
    • 3 x 30 batteries. Lead Acid 12V 12AH.
    • 4 x Electrical cabinets containing MCB/Relays/Cabling
    • 3 x Grease pumps (empty).
    • The rest consists of the steel frame/ fibreglass cover, some fibreglass ladders and electrical switches/sensors & cabling.
  • Blade clamping tool (incl. batteries and 50l hydraulic oil tank)
  • 2 x Foam Wraps for the blade tips with length of rope attached.

 

Hub, blades and blade clamping tool understood to be on seabed. Fragments of broken blade on sea surface.

Application of Triton Knoll Wind Farm Safety Zones During Construction

The Secretary of State has granted the Application of Safety Zones on the Triton Knoll Wind Farm Project as follows:

  • 500m “rolling” safety zones around any structure where construction is being undertaken (as indicated by the presence of construction vessels).
  • 50m pre-commissioning safety zones surrounding partial structures or completed structures prior to commissioning.
 

Demarcation Buoys

Partrac Ltd have deployed x12 Demarcation Buoys and x2 Metocean Buoy at the Triton Knoll Offshore Wind Farm (TKOWF) to mark the perimeter of the TKOWF site boundaries.

 

Vessels are requested to leave a wide berth during the installation operations. The buoys will be deployed for a period of two years, and all equipment will be removed at the end of the installation.

Navigation Warning - 08th January 2021

 

Mariners are advised that the remnants of a Wave Rider Buoy sinker weight and partial rigging are located within the Triton Knoll Offshore Wind Farm Construction site at the following location;

It is advised that the partial rigging could potentially be floating up to 9.7m above the seabed, reducing the navigable safe water in the immediate area to 10m LAT.  Mariners are advised to avoid the indicated position by 250 metres.

 

Possible Dangers to Navigation - Properties of the polypropylene show that the rope is buoyant, this makes the line sensitive for thruster currents. Taking the site water depth into consideration (19.7m LAT) and the maximum expected height above seabed of the rope 9.7m the line is expected to be floating submerged at approximately -10m LAT. In addition, it is noted that over time sediments will be trapped between the fibres and the heavier rope may finally sink. The polypropylene rope may impose a risk to foul propellers / propulsion of vessels due to the buoyant nature of the rope. As the rope is submerged at a depth of ~-10m LAT the risk is considered minimum for vessels with a shallow draught (<5m) and medium for a vessel with a deeper draught (>5m). Over time sediments will be trapped between the fibres and the heavier rope may finally sink thereby reducing the risk to propellers/propulsion of vessels. The clump weight itself (chain) is expected to have sunk into the seabed and has no significant height above seabed. In addition, the edges of the clump weight are mostly rounded (chain), the risk the clump weigh imposes to fishing activities/gear is therefore considered to be minimal.

 

Navigation Warning - 16th March 2021

 

Mariners are advised that two UXO targets have been confirmed within the Triton Knoll Offshore Wind Farm Array.

 

Mariners are advised that the two confirmed targets are located within 20 metres water depth (LAT) and a 10 metre radius exclusion zone is required around each target.  The following table provides the coordinates and a description for each target.

Archaeological - The item is thought to be an air-delivered bomb.  It appears to be in a stable condition and is resting on the seabed.  Marine growth and concretion cover the body, indicating it has been in situ for a significant duration. The tail section of the bomb is missing, which is typical of unexploded bombs from WWII found in these circumstances and there is a significant hole in the case. The dimensions and characteristics gathered are consistent with a 500kg German bomb. Seagreen Offshore Wind Farm - Scour Protection Installation



Subsea Scour Protection rock installation will commence on the Seagreen Offshore Windfarm foundation structures within the site boundary.


On behalf of Seagreen Wind Energy Ltd, Seaway 7 will install seabed scour protection rock to the foundation structures within the site boundary. The Flexible Fall Pipe Vessel (FFPV) Bravenes will transport and install the rock on the seabed using its flexible fall pipe system. This allows the scour protection to be installed with a high degree of accuracy. An ROV at the end of the fall pipe will be utilised to control the flow of rock to the seabed.

Cable Installation - Amitie Subsea Cable System



Alcatel Submarine Networks UK Ltd.(ASN) has been contracted to carry out construction activities of the AMITIÉ cable system.The AMITIÉ cable system spans nearly 6,600 km in total with the initial UK landing point in Widemouth Bay, near Bude, Cornwall. These operations are due to commence on the 17th October 2021, utilising the vessel Ile de Brehat call sign: FOUC and will last approximately 1 week.


The main lay cable installation activities between the landfall at Bude, Cornwall, out to the UK Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), were completed on 7th October 2021. A burial report was submitted to the MMO on 10th September 2021 in line with condition 5.2.19. Post-lay inspection & burial (PLIB) operations are due to take place at three locations and post-lay inspections (PLI) are due to take place at ten locations within the UK EEZ.

 

These operations are due to commence on the 17th October 2021, utilising the vessel Ile de Brehat call sign: FOUC and will last approximately 1 week.

 

The exact start and finish date will be dependent on the prevailing weather conditions and work progress.

 

It is requested that all vessels operating within this area keep their distance, maintaining at least a 500 m exclusion zone, and pass at minimum speed to reduce vessel wash.

 

Notice of Post-Lay and Burial Works

Please be aware, there are three sections of the Amitié cable within UK Exclusive Economic Zonewhich are subject to the Post Lay Inspection and Burial (PLIB) which will be carried out by the Ile de Brehat, commencing on the 17th October 2021

 

Nature of Operations

The vessel Ile de Brehat will be operating from approximately 270km from the landfall at Widemouth Bay, Bude, UK, out to the limit of the UK EEZ conducting the PLIB and PLI operations. These operations will be conducted on an ongoing 24 hour basis. A listening watch will be maintained on VHF Channel 16, and the vessels will actively transmit an AIS signal.

Shetland HVDC Link (Noss Head HDD Operations)



Extension of Works: NKT, on behalf of Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission Plc, will be undertaking diving operations at Noss Head to assist with the horizontal directional drilled (HDD) exit points for the Shetland HVDC Link. The works are located approximately 400m offshore in around 19m of water.


The moorings have been deployed and will remain on site until the estimated completion date of the 30th October 2021. The locations of the moorings have been provided in this notice and charted in the attached NtM. Onshore HDD operations are taking place for three pipe ducts to be installed with trajectories that will emerge at the seabed around 400m offshore within the area identified as ‘Mooring Extent’ detailed in this notice, and shown in the attached NtM. Vessels are required to continue to maintain a safe distance from the ‘Mooring Extent’ area until the estimated completion date of 30th October 2021.

  • Within the boundaries of the mooring area, steel ducts have been pushed out from each of the three HDD exit points and extend up to 10 m into the water column at an angle of approximately 9º to the horizontal as shown in the NtM.
  • The RONA or Pulsar shall conduct a high-resolution survey of the HDD exit point. The Survey will involve the use of Multibeam Echosounder (MBES) and Sidescan Sonar (SSS). Most of the survey work has been completed however further survey work of this nature may take place before the estimated completion date.
  • The mooring spread has been installed for the dive vessel ISLE OF JURA to anchor when on station. The NtM shows the mooring and anchoring system when the ISLE OF JURA is on station for duct diver support works. There will be times when the mooring system is left in situ without the vessel attached.
  • The dive vessel ISLE OF JURA will leave its position temporarily and return to station in September to complete the remaining 4-5 day work phase for the vessel, the mooring system will remain in situ during this time.
  • When the mooring is left in situ all anchors will be clearly surface marked with marker buoys over the moorings. The size of the buoys is approx. 1.2m diameter and 1m high.
  • The buoys have lights Fl Y 5s 2M range (a single yellow flash every five seconds with a nominal range of 2 miles).
  • The buoys do not have radar reflector.
  • The vessel will display the Alpha flag during daylight and Red/White/Red lights during the hours of darkness.
  • The protruding ducts will be cut close to the seabed prior to the moorings being removed by the estimated completion date of 30th October 2021.
  • The moorings and anchors will only be of a temporary nature, once the installation works are completed, the mooring and anchors will be fully recovered.

 

Navigational Safety

All vessels are requested to always maintain a safe distance (500m) from the construction and survey vessels.

 

STAY A SAFE DISTANCE AWAY FROM DIVE FLAGS. Maintain a distance of at least 300 feet (90m) from diver down flags and buoys in open water and at least 100 feet (30m) in inlets or navigation channels.

 

Vessel (Isle of Jura) will display the Alpha flag during daylight and Red/White/Red lights during the hours of darkness.

 

The buoys are illuminated with the appropriate lights, a single yellow flash every five seconds with a nominal range of 2 miles (Fl Y 5s 2M range).

Main Lay & Rock Berms - Scylla Subsea Cable



Please be advised that all main lay works have been completed for the Scylla subsea cable project. Localised rock berms were deployed at each of the five cable and pipeline crossings. Where rock berm “start” is indicative of the Westernmost point and “end” indicative of the Easternmost point. The maximum width of the rock berms at time of lay does not exceed 30m.


Please note that the PLSE works at Lowestoft remain in progress up to approximately 4.25 km from shore. Fishing and anchoring should be avoiding in this specific vicinity until completion of works has been confirmed.

Seagreen Export Cable nearshore protection works



Nearshore export cable protection works will take place at the Seagreen Offshore Wind Farm export cable landfall site at Carnoustie, Angus. The placing of rock bags on the seabed to act as temporary moorings to assist the installation vessels has now been completed. Work will now commence on the tow of 3 self-submersible pipes from Dundee harbour and installation at the export cable landfall site.


On behalf of Seagreen Wind Energy Ltd, Nexans Norway Dykkerteknikk AS will deliver nearshore export cable protection services and diving assistance in preparation for the pull-in of three export cables at the Carnoustie export cable landfall site. The export cable works are divided into 4 campaigns with an estimated completion date of the end of February 2022.

The first campaign is to install and trench 3 self-submersible cable protection pipes. Spool pieces have been connected to the three export cable ducts. 3 self-submersible cable protection pipes will now be connected to each of the export cable ducts. The three self-sub cable protection pipes will then be trenched awaiting export cable pull-in at a date to be confirmed. 

 

Installation activities and diving operations will take place from the MPV Sophie. The tug Cormorant and Multi Cat Aileen M will assist in the towing of the self-submersible cable protection pipes from Dundee and installation works at the landfall site at Carnoustie Beach.

The MPV Sophie, Cormorant and Aileen M are expected to commence installation and diving activities on or around Monday 06th September although this may be delayed due to weather conditions.

Temporary rock bag moorings have been placed on the seabed to be used during the selfsubmersible cable protection pipe installation and export cable pull-in. These temporary moorings will be surface marked by day-glo pellet buoys.

Unmanned Surface Vessel Cable Route Survey - Irish Sea



Operations of a remotely piloted Uncrewed Surface Vessel (USV) are planned in the Irish Sea. Dates: 15th October 2021 for up to 10 days until 25th October 2021. The USV will be mobilised from Whitehaven Marina, where it will transit to/from the area of operation. During the operation the USV will be performing a Hydrographic Survey.


A support vessel will escort the USV throughout the operations from the harbour entrance and will then continue transiting towards the survey site until the area is safe & clear of hazards.

 

It is requested that other vessels remain clear, so far as is practicable, during transit & survey operations.

 

Although the vessel is uncrewed, it is managed throughout the 24hour operation piloted remotely using 360 degree cameras and other navigational aids.

 

The USV sends real time images and situational awareness data over satellite to a team of operators keeping watch and controlling the vessel remotely 24/7.

 

Safety Precautions: The USV is equipped with the following to make it conspicuous to other marine traffic:

  • AIS
  • Navigation Lights & Sound Signal
  • Active Radar Reflector
  • Superstructure Painted Yellow

 

Seafarers are asked to avoid contact with the vessel and be aware of the operational area during this period.

Rock Replacement Repairs - HVDC Interconnector Nemo Link



East of the “South Falls” in UK waters a section of the HVDC Interconnector Nemo Link is unprotected due to seabed mobility, therefore rock placement repairs are expected between the 26th to the 31st of October by the Vessel Flintstone.


All Mariners are asked to avoid this area during this period, if this is not possible, communication and a minimum distance of 500 m from the DPFPV Flintstone will be required.

Pre Lay Grapnel Run - Carnoustie, Angus



On behalf of Seagreen Wind Energy Ltd, Nexans AS will conduct pre lay grapnel runs along each of the three export cable routes between the cable landfall site at Carnoustie, Angus and the offshore sub-station platform location within the Seagreen site boundary. The PLGR vessel, Havila Phoenix is expected at site on or around the 16th of October with operations expected to be completed within six days weather conditions permitting.


The pre-lay grapnel runs are required to identify and remove, where possible, any obstructions to export cable lay and burial operations. Any debris will be brought ashore for disposal.

 

The pre-lay grapnel run train will be deployed to the seabed using the vessel's crane and will be monitored via transponder and can be further monitored using a remotely operated vehicle.

 

During this operation two turn-point anchors will be wet stored within the export cable corridor in the vicinity of the offshore sub-station platform location. These turn point anchors will be repositioned at a later date and used during export cable pull in works at the offshore sub station platform. The turn point anchors will be wet stowed and later deployed in the positions (coordinates are shown below). These turn point anchors will then be repositioned accordingly for each subsequent export cable pull-in operation.

Survey - 2 Africa Cable System



Fugro has been requested to undertake an environmental survey in UK, within the Hartland to Tintagel MCZ. This MCZ covers the cable route from nearshore and part of offshore area to near the territorial boundary. The purpose of this survey is to obtain environmental data required to support the Permit in Principle (PiP) applications for the 2 Africa system. The survey will begin 16th October using the vessel Severn Guardian call sign: 2FGL5


On arrival at each transect the drop down camera system will be i deployed for the duration of the entire length of the transect to record the seabed type and associated epibenthic communities. Longer deployments may be undertaken in complex seabed areas or to map the boundaries of particular features, such as a rock reef outcrop. The discretion of the field ecologists will be used as to final duration of the video deployment to ensure that the habitat and species variety is adequately recorded.

 

Sampling locations have been predetermined and agreed with the client prior to the start of the survey.

Deployment and operation Floating LiDAR System - Valorous Floating Offshore Wind Farm



To inform the engineering designs and Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) for the proposed Valorous Floating Offshore Wind Farm (FLOW), a Floating LiDAR and associated mooring system is due to be deployed within the boundary of the proposed Valorous Floating Offshore Wind Farm (FLOW) project site.


The Floating LiDAR will be towed from harbour (Milford) and deployed at the location below. The works are expected to take place between the 15 October – 29 October.

 

The Floating LiDAR will be maintained in position via appropriate mooring systems for a 12-month period from initial deployment and will gather data to inform the proposed Project. Details of the device and relevant Aids to Navigation are provided below.

Havhingsten Fibre Optic Cable - Installation Activities



Cable installation vessel, CS Recorder, will be carrying out cable installation operations along the route of the Havhingsten cable in the Irish EEZ and UK EEZ. Due to weather delays, installation is now expected to resume from the 9 October, and continue until the 19 October.


Please be advised that installation of the Havhingsten fibre optic telecommunication cable system in the Irish Sea outside of the Irish 12 nautical miles is delayed due to weather downtime; works are expected to re-commence from the 9 October. Works within the Irish 12 nautical miles are planned from December 2021.

 

The supplier of the Havhingsten cable is Alcatel Submarine Networks (ASN). Intertek are the environmental and permitting consultants.

 

The entire cable system will comprise marine elements that pass from Denmark to the UK (NE region); from the UK (NW) to the Republic of Ireland; with two segments installed into landfalls on the Isle of Man. 

 

The cable route for the western Irish Sea region is shown below, landing at Loughshinny in Ireland. Works in October 2021 will be undertaken from the Isle of Man 12nm and will stop at the Irish 12 nautical miles.

 

Installation will be via industry standard burial tools including water jetting and ploughing. Target cable burial depth is 1.5m below seabed level in the region.

 

It is anticipated that installation operations in UK/Irish waters will occupy up to a maximum 500m width (250m either side of cable). The cable itself will occupy only 40mm of the seabed.

 

Expected speed of installation will be approximately 17 km per day.

Prior to rock placement there is a maximum of 50m of cable surface laid at each of the 4 crossings. It is advised that extra care is taken when vessels are operating near these areas and that no vessel should trawl within 250m from.


Please be advised that, installation of the Havhingsten fibre optic telecommunication cable system is complete outside of 12nm within the North Sea and at the Seaton Sluice landing. The Whitley Bay stub works are scheduled for March 2021.

Installation was via industry standard burial tools including water jetting and ploughing. Cable burial has been performed to a target of 2m.

 

The Havhingsten cable crosses 4 pipelines within the UK North Sea, which will require external rock protection. Post-rock installation is now expected in March 2021. The cable crossings start at approximately 72km offshore and beyond.

 

Prior to rock placement there is a maximum of 50m of cable surface laid with Uraduct protection at each of the 4 crossings. Coordinates of the crossings are provided in the table below. It is advised that extra care is taken when vessels are operating near these areas and that no vessel should trawl within 250m from the listed coordinates.

Survey - Irish Sea, West of Blackpool UK



Mariners are advised that survey vessel and equipment will be used in the offshore area in the Irish Sea, west of Blackpool, UK. The offshore geophysical survey work will be carried out by MMT using survey vessels Northern Franklin Cal Sign: OZIH2. Work will commence in the UK waters from 15th October until approximately 15th of November.


During this survey the vessel will be deploying underwater survey equipment at which such times, the survey vessel will be restricted in its ability to manoeuvre and approaching vessels are requested to pass at a safe speed and distance. Mariners are advised to keep an aft safety clearance of the survey vessel no less than 500m

 

The vessel will be towing 3 items of equipment and they will be approximately 150 m astern of the vessel. The vessel towing speed will be approximately 3.5-4.5 knots.

 

Morecambe is a 480MW offshore wind farm, and is owned by Offshore Wind Ltd (OWL) a joint venture between Cobra Instalaciones Servicios, S.A., and Flotation Energy plc. This survey is the Phase-1 Geophysical Ground Investigation of the wind farm site.

 

The geophysical survey work will be conducted with hull mounted Multibeam sonar and a sub-bottom profiler with towed sidescan sonar and TVG (dual magnetometer). Additional geo-sparker and PAM equipment will also be towed from the vessel.

The geophysical survey work in the area will be carried out by MMT using offshore survey vessel Northern Franklin.

An Offshore Fisheries Liaison Officer will be onboard during the works, contactable on VHF channel 16

The metocean buoys and floating LiDAR equipment will undergo regular scheduled maintenance during the operation period, where vessels may be onsite for 1 day at a time; further notice to mariners will be issued confirming the dates and maintenance activities. During the Floating Lidar servicing it will be towed to port for servicing prior to redeployment. Details of the anticipated scheduled maintenance dates are provided in Section 4 below, please note that these are currently the expected timings.

 

All vessels are requested to maintain a safe distance (500m) from the installation vessels (Vital or Vector) at all times. All vessels are requested to maintain a safe distance (200m) from the monitoring equipment at all times.

Recovery of dropped moorings within the proposed Erebus Site



An attempt to recover two moorings, estimated to be located within the approx. locations below, will be undertaken during October 2021. This date is subject to weather permitting, and therefore there may be the potential for an extension to the work duration.


A Remotely Operated Vehicle will be deployed to identify the moorings. The moorings will then be bought to deck and transported to shore.

Deployment of ADCP Device - Berwick Bank Wind Farm



A Notice to Mariners (First Issue) for the deployment of a bottom mounted ADCP device recording metocean data at three locations within the proposed Berwick Bank Wind Farm array area. An associated guard buoy is currently deployed at each location. Expected arrival on site is mid-October 2021 with the works completed over three days; weather conditions permitting. We would like to extend the validity period from 12th October – 31st December 2021 to allow for any eventualities.


Mariners are advised that SSE Renewables will be deploying a bottom mounted ADCP device recording metocean data at three locations within the proposed Berwick Bank Wind Farm array area. An associated guard buoy is currently deployed at each location. All locations referred to are outlined in Table 1 and displayed Figure 1.

 

It is proposed that three stumpy moorings (M) and a near-bed frame (NB) will be installed on the sea bed within 175m to the three guard buoys which were installed during a previous wave buoy campaign. These locations are all within the Berwick Bank Wind Farm (BBWF) in the outer Firth of Forth on the east coast of Scotland. It should be noted that the near-bed frame will only be situated at one of these three sites at any one time.

 

The equipment will be deployed during October 2021, with an estimated start date for deployment set for the 14th October 2021. However, this may be subject to change due to weather and/or operational delays. The stumpy moorings will be deployed for 12 months with maintenance and monitoring completed at each three-month interval. The one near-bed frame will be deployed for three months at two sites and 6 months at one site, equating to a deployment duration of 12 months in total.

Dogger Bank Wind Farms (A & B) - Nearshore Intervention Works



The Jack-up Barge Haven Seariser 4 and the backhoe dredger Abeko 2 will be carrying out dredging activities. Haven Seariser 4 will expose the four HDD exit points and form entry pits. Abeko 2 will excavate two pre-cut trenches for DBA and DBB cable route corridors


The Abeko Server 2 Will carry out dredging activity to form two pre-cut trenches for DBA and DBB cable route corridors using the on-board long reach excavator. There will be spoil management activities being carried out throughout, to ensure the soil heaps don’t reduce the water depth by more than a statutory 5%. She will be carrying out the excavation activities on DBA and DBB during the night. The duration of these works is estimated to be seven days. See fig 2 below.

 

The Haven Seariser 4 will also remain on site 24 hrs during operations, unless threatened by extreme weather, continuing diving operations. These may be carried out in the hours of darkness. A short safety message will be broadcast on CH16 advising of diving operations starting and ceasing.

 

The MTS Valour will be anchored in the field during the nearshore activities. She will remain on station/site during the night and manned 24 hours throughout. The MTS Valour will provide assistance during diving operations and any barge movements required.

 

The RHIB Celtic Mara will be carrying out Multi-Beam Echo Sounder (MBES) surveys of the seabed and along the pre-cut trenches throughout the dredging activities. The survey gear will be positioned on a side mounted pole and extended into the water. Celtic Mara will transit daily from Bridlington Harbour to the Haven Seariser 4 and Abeko Server 2

 

During survey operations the Celtic Mara will be restricted in her ability to manoeuvre. It is requested that all vessels give the Celtic Mara a 500m safety clearance zone and reduce speed when passing. She will display the appropriate lights and day shapes.

 

During dredging and diving operations it is requested that The Abeko Server 2 and Haven Seariser 4 be given a 500m safety clearance zone. Diving flag ‘Alpha’ and the appropriate lights will be displayed during diving operations.

Dogger Bank A & B, Boulder Clearance Works



The survey vessel Noordhoek Pathfinder will undertake boulder clearance works along the Dogger Bank A & B export cable route and also within Dogger Bank A array cable area.


A Work-class Remotely Operated Vehicle (WROV) will be deployed from the vessel at each location to identify and relocate targets up to distances of around 100m.

 

During the operations the vessel will be restricted in its ability to manoeuvre and will display the appropriate day shapes and lights. Passing vessels are requested to maintain a minimum 500m safety distance from Noordhoek Pathfinder, reducing speed to minimise wake disturbance.

Five Estuaries Offshore Wind Farm Project - Offshore Surveys



Five Estuaries Offshore Wind Farm Limited has contracted Fugro GB Marine Limited (Fugro) to carry out a geophysical and environmental site investigation in the North Sea for the proposed Five Estuaries Offshore Wind Farm (FEOW) site.


Fugro Mercator - Offshore Geophysical Survey

The geophysical operations at the Five Estuaries site are expected to be carried out from the Fugro Mercator from 5 th August 2021 for approximately 14 weeks.

 

Fugro Mercator will be conducting operations across the Main Array and Export Cable Route areas >10m LAT. Please note that the exact start and finish date will be dependent on the prevailing weather conditions and work progress.

 

As the Fugro Mercator will be towing survey equipment the vessel will require large turning circles and will be restricted in her ability to manoeuvre. All vessels operating within this area are requested to keep their distance, maintaining at least the 500m safety zone around the survey vessel, and pass at minimum speed to reduce vessel wash.

 

A continuous listening watch will be conducted on VHF Channel 16.

 

Survey operations will be conducted on a 24-hour basis.

 

Curtis Marshall - Environmental Survey

The environmental operations at the Five Estuaries site are expected to be carried out from the Curtis Marshall from 2 nd November 2021 for approximately 2 weeks. Curtis Marshall will be conducting operations across the Main Array and Export Cable Route areas both offshore and nearshore. Please note that the exact start and finish date will be dependent on the prevailing weather conditions and work progress. 

 

As the Curtis Marshall will be deploying equipment astern of the vessel, the vessel will require large turning circles and will be restricted in her ability to manoeuvre. All vessels operating within this area are requested to keep their distance, maintaining at least the 500m safety zone around the survey vessel, and pass at minimum speed to reduce vessel wash.

 

A continuous listening watch will be conducted on VHF Channel 16.

 

Survey operations will be conducted on a 24-hour basis.

 

Fugro Seeker - Nearshore Geophysical Investigation

 

The geophysical operations on the Five Estuaries export cable route from the 10m LAT contour inshore to the potential landfall, are expected to be carried out from the survey vessel Fugro Seeker from 1 st August 2021 for approximately 6-7 weeks. Please note that the exact start and finish date will be dependent on the prevailing weather conditions and work progress.

 

As the Fugro Seeker will be towing survey equipment the vessel will require large turning circles and will be restricted in her ability to manoeuvre. All vessels operating within this area are requested to keep their distance, maintaining at least the 500m safety zone around the survey vessel, and pass at minimum speed to reduce vessel wash.

 

A continuous listening watch will be conducted on VHF Channel 16.

Landfall Works at Boygrift - Viking Link Project



Mariners are advised about landfall works at Boygrift, Lincolnshire (English Landfall) planned for the Viking Link project which is an HVDC electricity transmission interconnector between Denmark and England, a joint venture between National Grid and Energinet. The cable landfall works include excavation works, diving operations, wet stored HVDC cable recovery and cable pull-ins. The landfall marine works are ongoing with expected completion in UK waters by the end of October 2021.


The landfall works cover the preparatory works and the cable pull-in work. Part of the preparatory work includes excavation works at the end of the ducts previously installed and a trench excavation at roughly 300m from the pipe ends. Diving work, including inspection and preparation activities to previously installed ducts are also foreseen. Marker buoys will be placed to mark the area where dredging work and spoils will be temporarily located.  

Additional marker buoys will be laid at 50m distance

 

The recovery of wet stored HVDC cable and HVDC cable pull-in are planned to start on September 28th and will be performed by Asso.subsea under Prysmian PowerLink supervision using Atalanti (IMO 8661616; Call Sign 5BYY2).

 

The preparatory works are being managed by Prysmian PowerLink carried out by GPC Cumbria using the following vessels:

  • Abeko Server 2 call sign: PEDD - as the main marine support platform for the excavation works
  • Severn Supporter (Multicat) call sign: MHBD6 - for barge towage from mobilization port to site.
  • Vanishing point 2 call sign: 2FYL6 - for diving support & survey activities.

The Communication between the JUB and rest of the vessels will be through CH67 & 72. VHF CH 16 will be monitored at all times and will be used to contact the coastguard in the event of an emergency.

The crane has the potential to become a dropped object. Whilst investigations continue into the route cause it is imperative that a 50m exclusion zone is observed around all 5 Wind Turbine Generators on the Hywind Scotland Offshore Wind Farm. Seagreen Offshore Windfarm - Deployment of a Guard Vessel

In conjunction with the commencement of wind turbine generator foundation installation activities, Seaway 7 will deploy a site Guard Vessel on behalf of Seagreen Wind Energy Ltd. The Nemo Link Subsea Inteconnector which runs between Richborough (UK) and Zeebrugge (BE). Completion of Export Cable Burial Works - Neart na Gaoithe Offshore Wind Farm



Mariners are advised that Neart na Gaoithe Offshore Wind Farm Limited (NnGOWL) have completed cable burial works of the two export cables within the Neart Na Gaoithe (NnG) Export Cable Corridor. There are a small number of locations where sufficient burial was not possible and where rock protection will be required.


A subsequent notice to mariners will be issued regarding this work. Over-trawl trials will soon be undertaken where burial has been successful and will also be undertaken following the completion of rock protection installation. A notice to mariners will also be issued prior to this work commencing.

Seagreen Offshore Wind Farm – Deployment of Site Demarcation and Wave Data Buoys



Demarcation buoys have now been deployed to mark the boundary of the Seagreen offshore wind farm. Three wave data buoys are also deployed inside the site boundary.


On behalf of Seagreen Wind Energy Ltd, Seaway 7 have deployed temporary construction site demarcation and wave data buoys. The Seagreen Offshore Windfarm is now marked and lit as a construction area for the duration of the construction phase. A combination of cardinal and special marks have been deployed displaying the appropriate light and shape characteristics. The coordinates of each buoy are specified below and at the request of NLB, the cardinal marks at each corner of the development site will transmit via Automatic Identification System (AIS). Three wave data buoys have also been deployed within the confines of the construction area. MARINERS ARE REMINDED to navigate with caution and keep continued watch on VHF Ch.70/16 when navigating the area.

WTG Installation and Commissioning - Moray East Windfarm



Moray Offshore Windfarm (East) shall commence WTG installation on the previously installed jackets. WTG’s will be installed by the JUV Blue Tern. Once the WTG’s have been installed Acta Centaurus will transfer teams of technicians using a walk to work system to carry out commissioning works in readiness for energisation. Viking Link Project - Post-lay Installation Placement Works



Mariners are advised about post-lay Rock Placement works planned for the first section of the cable route, Campaign 1, planned for the Viking Link project which is a HVDC electricity transmission interconnector between Denmark and England, a joint venture between National Grid and Energinet. The Campaign 1 post-lay Rock Placement works covered by this notice are in UK waters and are planned to commence on the 12th September 2021 with expected completion by end of October 2021.


The post-lay Rock Placement for Campaign 1 is planned in the following areas:

  • Where pre-existing cables and pipelines are crossed by the Viking Link cable route
  • Where it’s requested rock placement for cable protection

The dynamic positioning system onboard will keep the vessel in position in order to progressively and accurately install the rock in the planned locations.

The Campaign 1 post-lay Rock Placement works are being managed by Prysmian PowerLink carried out by DEME Boskalis JV using the following vessels:

  • DPFPV Rockpiper call sign: 5BML3

The works covered within this Notice to Mariners (NtMs) are divided in the following activities planned to take place from:

  • Cable lay 17th September – 10th October 2021
  • Cable Burial 25th September – 4th December 2021

The route length of the main HVDC interconnector (2x bundles power cables + 1x Fibre Optic Cable) is in the order of 620km. The work covered by this NtM is covering the second campaign of 106km in length, starting from the end of the first campaign recently installed from the UK landfall, which encompassed the first 51km section

The Cable Lay works are being carried out by: Prysmian PowerLink using Leonardo da Vinci (IMO 9857315; MMSI 247415300; Call Sign IJVJ2).

Deployment of 3 x ADCP monitoring equipment - off St. Catherine's Point, South of the Isle of Wight



As part of the Perpetuus Tidal Energy Centre (PTEC), European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) will be deploying three ADCP units in close proximity off St. Catherine's Point, South of the Isle of Wight. Due to the nature of the deployment each unit will be considered as a navigational hazard. Care should be taken when navigating around the below positions.


Each unit will be laid in a string with a sinker at each end of the ADCP.  Each sinker will have a Polysteel riser line attached to it with a small yellow 250mm pickup bouy and float connected.  These buoys will be visible during slack tides and subsurface during the rest of the tidal cycle.

Safety Zones

Please be advised that the Scottish Ministers have authorised the use of the safety zones during construction and operation of the Moray East Offshore Wind Farm as detailed below.

 

During construction

  • A 500 metre radius around each WTG and OSP where construction works are taking place that include sensitive activities being undertaken by vessels RAM. A maximum of three of such zones is permitted at any one time. 
  • A 50 metre radius around partially completed WTGs and OSPs where work is not underway and the risk assessments identify a need. 
  • A 50 metre radius around each completed WTG and OSP prior to commissioning and as required by a risk assessment process. 

During major maintenance

  • A 500 metre radius around all major maintenance works being undertaken around the WTGs and OSPs. No more than one major maintenance zone is permitted at any one time.

Construction Activities

It is currently anticipated that weather permitting offshore construction works will be carried out on a continuous basis (i.e. 24 hour working, seven days a week) unless notified otherwise.

 

Please be aware that by virtue of its mode of operation and the equipment deployed, construction vessels listed in the table below may be Restricted in their Ability to Manoeuvre as defined under COLREGS (International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea 1972, Rule 3). Masters of vessels are therefore requested to maintain their vessels and gears at a minimum safe distance from these vessels of 500 metres when they are undertaking it work and showing the appropriate shapes and lights.  Further Notice to Mariners will be issued as construction progresses.

Notification of Seabed Hazard at Location NNG-H17 - Neart na Gaoithe Offshore Wind Farm



Mariners are advised that the Saipem 7000 (S7000) has successfully completed recovery of the previously left equipment within the boundaries of the Neart na Gaoithe (NnG) Offshore Wind Farm. The operation was completed on 17th August 2021 and the S7000 has departed site.

The equipment has been recovered from Wind Turbine Generator (WTG) location NNG-H17, however, a small section remains within the drilled socket.  This section protrudes approximately 3.1m above the level of the seabed, at the location specified in Table 6, and is to be cut at a later date.

 

The installed cardinal buoy, as notified in NtM 154 has been removed.

Construction of Wind Farm - Neart na Gaoithe Offshore Wind Farm Limited



Neart na Gaoithe Offshore Wind Farm Limited (NnGOWL) will commence construction work for Neart na Gaoithe (NnG) Offshore Wind Farm, from the 9th August 2020, with the start of casing and pile installation operations on the wind farm site.


NnGOWL is developing the NnG Offshore Wind Farm, jointly owned by EDF Renewables and ESB, which is located in the outer Firth of Forth, Scotland. The NnG wind farm area is 15 km east off Fife Ness and 29 km from the East Lothian coastline and covers an area of 105 km2

The wind farm consists of 54 no. wind turbines (WTGs) and 2 no. Offshore Substation Platforms (OSPs), with a total capacity of approximately 45 0MW. Water depths across the offshore wind farm area generally range from 40 to 60 m below LAT. The generated power will be transmitted to the grid via two subsea export cable circuits which will reach landfall at Thorntonloch Beach, East Lothian, Scotland. Specific details and location of activities within the Wind Farm Area and Export Cable Corridor will be provided via subsequent notices as work progresses.

Replacement Boulder Clearance Vessel - Neart na Gaoithe Offshore Wind Farm



Neart na Gaoithe Offshore Wind Farm Limited will replace the current boulder clearance vessel Sartor with the Vos Sweet (PCPE) from 10th August 2021, at the earliest to undertake remaining seabed preparation works within the Wind Farm Area.


Mariners are advised that Neart na Gaoithe Offshore Wind Farm Limited (NnGOWL) are due to replace the current boulder clearance vessel Sartor. The Sartor will be replaced by the Vos Sweet (PCPE) from 10th August 2021, at the earliest. The Vos Sweet (PCPE) will undertake the remaining seabed preparation works within the Wind Farm Area.

 

The Vos Sweet (PCPE), will carry out the remaining boulder relocation operations in preparation for installation of the inter array cables in the Wind Farm Area. The Sar Fame will be undertaking boulder relocation using a Subsea Multi-Tool Remotely Operated Vehicle with a grab.

 

Relocation of boulders in areas of inter array cable infrastructure is a critical pre-construction activity to reduce significant Health and Safety risks to the construction phase. Boulders will be relocated a short distance from their existing position only. Boulder relocation activities will take place within the Wind Farm Area in Figure 1.

 

Area of Operations

 

Mariners are advised that the Sar Fame will be mobilised to work within the Neart na Gaoithe (NnG) Wind Farm Area. The Wind Farm Area coordinates are provided in the table below. The remaining works are expected to last approximately four months, weather dependent.

Commencement of Pile Installation Campaign - Neart na Gaoithe Offshore Wind Farm



Mariners are advised that Neart na Gaoithe Offshore Wind Farm Limited (NnGOWL) is due to commence pile installation within the Neart Na Gaoithe (NnG) Wind Farm Area. The work is due to begin week commencing 14th June 2021, at the earliest.


In preparation for the jacket foundation installation, three piles for each wind turbine location and offshore substation  platform will be installed. The piles will be installed by the Saipem 3000 (S3000) (call sign: C6SW6) into pre-drilled  sockets. Pile installation support will be provided by the Skandi Acergy (call sign: LAFD7) offshore construction vessel, which will arrive to site in late June 2021. The Skandi Acergy will transfer supporting materials and installation equipment between positions on the seabed adjacent to each foundation location. On arrival at each location, the S3000 will collect and utilise this wet-stored equipment during pile installation.  Once the three piles have been positioned within the pre-drilled sockets, grout will be inserted to secure them in place.

 

A supply vessel will be utilised to transport piles to NnG wind farm, as required.  Further information on the vessel for each visit will be provided on the Vessel Report and Weekly Notice to Mariners available at https://nngoffshorewind.com/resources/.

Deployment & operation of two Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers-Erebus Floating Offshore Wind Farm



To inform the engineering designs and Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) for the proposed Erebus Floating Offshore Wind Farm (FLOW) offshore export cable, two frame mounted Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCP) have been successfully deployed within Rows Rocks Channel, near the entrance to the Milford Haven Waterways.


The ADCPs will be in situ on the seabed for up to 3 months. ADCP dimensions and an image of the ADCP and frame to be deployed is shown below. A marker buoy will not be used during deployments.

Pentland Floating Offshore Wind SEAWATCH LiDAR Buoy



Fugro have deployed a SeaWatch LiDAR Buoy (SWLB) within the Pentland Firth, located off the north coast of Scotland. The equipment will be deployed for approximately one year and has been moored through a combination of steel chains, rope and rubber cord to approximately 2250 kg anchor weight at the seabed.


Fugro have deployed a SeaWatch LiDAR Buoy (SWLB); this is a sea state measurement instrument (referred to as ‘the equipment’). The deployment location is within the UK Sector of the North Sea off the north coast of Scotland.

  • The equipment was deployed on 29 August 2021, and will be deployed for approximately one year.
  • The equipment's location is provided within the attached Notice to Mariners.
  • Scheduled maintenance of the equipment is planned every six months, but unforeseen maintenance may be required.
  • The equipment has been moored through a combination of steel chains, rope and rubber cord to approximately 2250 kg anchor weight at the seabed.

Exposed Pipe - Installation of temporary marker buoy



This notice to mariners (NtM) relates to the installation of a temporary marker buoy positioned at the north of the end of the exposed export cable ducts protruding from the seabed. During the period of the nearshore intervention works (described in NtM LF500013-MIP-DOG-NOT0012), the temporary marker buoy will be positioned to the north of the works area.


On completion of the nearshore works, the temporary marker buoy will be repositioned between the exposed ducts and a further revised NtM published.

This NtM supersedes LF500013-MIP-DOG-NOT005, issued on the 1st March 2021

 

The marker buoy characteristics are: Yellow Special Mark, light pattern: Fl(Y)5s

 

Mariners are reminded to navigate with caution, keeping a safe passing distance from the temporary marker buoy and keeping a continuous watch on VHF Ch. 70/16 when navigating the area.

Exposed power cable in free-span (up to 2 metres off the seabed)



A recent survey has detected a 17m long cable suspension (free-span), that is up to 2 metres high, on the BritNed Interconnector HVDC cable. This poses the risk of entrapment of trawling gear; all vessels fishing are advised to keep well clear. At its maximum height, the suspension is in the order of 1.5 - 2m clear of the seabed. BritNed are actively looking at remedial options, but in the meantime all fishing vessels are advised to give this location a wide berth.

Havhingsten Cable - surface laid cable



Please be advised that there are three areas of surface-laid cable, pending rock placement works in the second half of 2021.


Please be advised that the remaining post-lay burial (PLIB) works of the Havhingsten fibre optic telecommunication cable system have now been completed in the Irish Sea, but there are three areas of surface-laid cable which are pending rock placement works.

 

There is a maximum of 25m of cable surface laid with Uradact protection either side of the crossings listed below. Rock protection works will be carried out during the second half of 2021. It is advised that extra care is taken when vessels are operating near the areas and that no vessel should trawl within 0.25 nautical miles from the listed coordinates prior to rock placement. The rock berms will be over trawlable and in-line with industry standards.

Exposed and Free Span - Greater Gabbard Offshore Wind Farm



Results of the Greater Gabbard OFTO export cable survey. The chart lists the changes to the exposures on the three export cables, on the inshore section between KP 3 and KP 5 with a free span remaining around KP 4. Between KP 36 and KP 38 there are some exposed sections as the cables enter the site. In addition, although listed as exposures on the chart, there are areas of shallow burial at KP10 and a cable exposure on the interconnector cable within the site.

In addition, although listed as exposures on the chart, there are areas of shallow burial at KP10 and a cable exposure on the interconnector cable within the site.

 

The exposed/shallow burial areas are shown as the coloured dots on the cable route highlighted in a black box.  Equitix (Greater Gabbard OFTO) have asked that all Fishermen operate with caution when fishing anywhere on the cable route and particularly the areas that are shallow buried around KP10.’

 

Coordinates of exposed/shallow burial areas are shown on the attached chart.

 

The OFTO is updating its risk assessments to determine the extent of remedial measures that may be required. Equitix intend to provide an update on remediation after the risk assessment exercise is complete.’

Survey - Outer Dowsing Offshore Wind



Outer Dowsing Offshore Wind (a joint venture between TotalEnergies and Green Investment Group) shall be conducting a 5 month offshore geophysical survey approximately 60km East of the Humber Estuary from 10th August to 29th December 2021.


Using vessel Guard Celena call sign : V7OY7. The survey vessel shall be towing a cable up to approximately 150m behind the vessel (the end marked by a tail buoy) at depths of up to 3m below sea level. The survey vessel shall have limited maneuverability so please allow a safe distance.

Array Cable Installation - Hornsea Project Two



Ørsted have commenced array cable installation with the Seaway Aimery and Seaway Moxie which will continue through to Q3 2021. The Simar Esperanca will commence trenching on or around 30th May 2021.


Array Cable Seabed  Installation

Ørsted will be commencing pre-lay surveys and seabed preparation for array cable installation with the Simar Esperanca and rock deployment with the Flintstone on or around 21st March 2021, shortly followed by array cable installation itself on or around 15th April 2021. In addition to this, Seaway Offshore Cables (SOC) and Sulmara may be trialling an autonomous survey vessel within the Hornsea Project Two array area which will be supported by a dedicated support vessel, queries related to this scope should be directed to SOC / Sulmara.

 

Works will be continual and intermittent throughout this period. The works will be undertaken by a number of vessels at different times according to the Project schedule. This Notice will be updated and re-issued when works are complete.

 

Note that the vessels will have limited manoeuvrability and it is requested that all vessels operating near the vessels maintain a safe distance (at least 500m) and pass all vessels at minimum speed.

 

Please be advised that construction activities are ongoing within the wind farm, supported by Crew Transfer Vessels (CTVs) and survey vessels intermittently. The Deep Cygnus will be mobilising to site as a support vessel to the ongoing construction works on or around 28th May 2021. The MHO Grimsby continues to carry out construction geophysical surveys intermittently utilising a hull-mounted system within the proposed Hornsea Project Two Offshore Wind Farm site and the Wind Innovation remains on the project for construction support.

It is requested that all vessels operating near the construction area keep a safe distance and pass at minimum speed.

Deployment of 2 x Metocean Buoys - North of Cromer



Partrac is to deploy two large metocean buoys (E03 and E13) at two separate locations approximately 18 miles northwest of Cromer and 28 miles north of Cromer in the southern North Sea

Once deployed, please maintain a 500m exclusion around each buoy.

 

Deployment is estimated to be carried out over one day from the 5th May 2021, weather permitting.

 

The deployments will be completed by the vessel Isle of Jura.

 

The surface buoys will include: AIS; A day shape of yellow St Andrews Cross; radar reflector; and yellow navigation light.

 

The metocean buoys record meteorological data and are anchored to the seabed by means of a mooring chain and a ground weight. The buoy has dimensions of 4m x 4m, and when deployed the tallest mast on the buoy sits approx. 4m above the water line
